A horrifying road accident took place near Jamua petrol pump in Rohtas district’s Karakat police station area on Sunday evening, where a speeding and uncontrolled Thar jeep crushed four people standing roadside. The CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral, triggering widespread anger.
The deceased has been identified as Indu Devi (40), wife of Hridayanand Pandit, a resident of Jamua village. The injured include an 8-year-old child Pawan, along with Salamuddin Ansari (30) and Salim Ansari (32) — all seriously hurt and currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bikramganj.
The CCTV video clearly shows a woman walking with items in hand and three people sitting near a parked scooter and bicycle. Suddenly, a Thar jeep crashes at high speed, hitting the woman first, then ramming into the others and plunging into a ditch after breaking the bridge railing.
Villagers caught the Thar driver and two passengers, allegedly in an intoxicated state, and beat them up before handing them over to police. In protest, angry locals blocked the Bikramganj–Dehri road for hours, demanding strict action.
Police have seized the vehicle and begun an investigation. Authorities say CCTV evidence and eyewitness accounts will be crucial in prosecuting the culprits.
