A total of 204 Umrah fraud complaints involving RM3.6mil in losses were reported from January to May 2024, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan.
During the Dewan Rakyat Q&A session on Tuesday (Aug 5), he also noted that the Tourism Ministry received 58 complaints of Haj package fraud, with losses exceeding RM600,000.
Responding to a question from Zahari Kechik (PN–Jeli), Zulkifli said that in a recent case involving 47 Malaysians scammed by a Haj syndicate, 25 police reports were lodged on June 23, and two individuals were charged in court on July 29 under the Haj Fund Act.
