OpenAI finance chief Sarah Friar said Wednesday that the company continues to face heavy pressure from AI compute demands. Friar told CNBC that OpenAI is facing relentless GPU and compute shortages, driving its launch of Stargate and larger infrastructure builds. She said OpenAI is expanding partnerships with Oracle and CoreWeave to meet compute demands while maintaining strong ties with Microsoft. OpenAI has rapidly expanded since ChatGPT’s 2022 launch, reaching $10 billion in annual recurring revenue and projecting $12.7 billion this year. CEO Sam Altman said the company expects to spend trillions on data centers to meet rising demand.
